Rating: - Great bit of kit
Bought the GPS for a long trip to a rural location near La Rochelle in France. The address was not recognised by the Garmin but it worked perfectly when I punched in the Lat Long figures from Google Earth. The Garmin decide to go off track once (into a corn field) but quickly returned to the intended route. Apart from this minor deviation, the kit worked beautifully throughout the 1300 mile trip. Highly recommended.
Rating: - Clever, but could do with a couple of small tweaks
I've owned one of these for nearly a year now (bought in August 2009). It was my first sat nav. I chose it for no other reason than I'd used Garmin's several times whilst on business trips to the USA, and I'd never been let down by them.
Overall, the experience has been good. I've used it both on holiday and on business, always in the UK.

Having had a Navman for many years it was getting frustrating for it to miss roundabouts, sending me up tracks instead of roads etc etc plus they stopped making updates for it and the final straw was when it failed to recognise the satelites!!so invested in the Garmin 255w widescreen and the difference was unbelievable, very clear direction, very quick response to new routes or recalculations when required plus with the clear visual directions there were very few opportunities to go wrong, the traffic ... Rating:  - Ok but watchout for the free update
All seems fine except the free map update wouldn't update the complete map. Ended up replacing the whole of Euro with a single country.
Having got that sorted the first journey seemed ok. Arrived at the destination. Went to enter the next location and it locked up. There is nothing documented in the manual to reset it. with no sat nav or traffic report we joined the M25 and found our selves in a 6 hour traffic jam. Check the web whe we arrived back. I hired a TotmTom for a week and at the end decided to buy a satnav. I bought this one but it is not as useful as the TomTom was as it tends to lock and have to be re-set (5 times out of the about 10 times I've used it. )
It also doesn't find places of interest easily. You have to know the actual address. eg. I wanted to visit The Palm House in Sefton Park Liverpool (a famous visitor attraction) but it would not pick it up without the address. It is in the middle of large Sefton Park (like ... Read More
